PEX-A PIPE

240m / 500m Rolls

Description:

Single-layer polyethylene pipe crosslinked by the peroxide method, with an oxygen diffusion barrier, according to the requirements of the European standard EN 15875-2.

The EVOH oxygen diffusion barrier is a thin layer of ethyl-vinyl alcohol copolymer that prevents the pipe’s permeability to oxygen diffusion, eliminating the problem of oxygen supply to the water flow and corrosion in the metal elements of the installation that this would produce, extending the useful life of the entire installation.

Properties:

PEX-A BAO pipes combine the advantages of PEX-Peroxide pipes (excellent resistance to high pressures and temperatures, great flexibility, etc.) with the anti-diffusion properties of the BAO barrier.

Advantages:

  • Pipes with a BAO barrier have the same temperature resistance, pressure resistance, and warranty period as PEX pipes without a barrier.
  • They offer reduced oxygen permeability.
  • BAO pipes require the same fittings as PEX pipes without a barrier.
  • The thermal memory in BAO pipes is the same as in PEX pipes.
  • BAO pipes can also be used for sanitary and heating use, as they are certified according to UNE-EN ISO 15875 standard, to reach 95°C temperature and even 110°C for short periods of time.
  • Crosslinked polyethylene pipes are manufactured using Monosil technology, which originates from the manufacturing of fibre optic cables. This guarantees a pressure resistance that is 35% higher than that obtained with other manufacturing systems.
  • This greater resistance of the MONOSIL method compared to other manufacturing systems is achieved because the bonds between polyethylene chains are three-dimensional in nature, meaning they are stronger than the bonds achieved with other manufacturing methods where the bonds are planar.

Notes:

  • Polyethylene: Type of plastic commonly used in pipes.
  • Crosslinking: Process that strengthens the polyethylene, making it more resistant to heat and pressure.
  • UNE-EN ISO 15875-2: European standard that sets requirements for these types of pipes.
  • Class 4: Classification that indicates the pipe’s suitability for specific applications, in this case, low-temperature heating systems.
  • EVOH: Ethyl-vinyl-alcohol, a type of plastic used for the oxygen barrier. It’s very effective at blocking oxygen.
  • Oxygen diffusion barrier: A layer within the pipe wall that prevents oxygen from passing through the pipe and into the water.

Why is an oxygen diffusion barrier important? In heating systems, oxygen in the water can cause corrosion in metal parts like boilers and radiators. This can lead to premature failure of the system. The oxygen barrier in the pipe prevents this, making the system last longer.
